Pernis joins Rhine corridor hydrogen feasibility study

The consortium will assess conversion of existing Duisburg tankage and pipeline connections for hydrogen carriers.
Pernis has joined a six-party consortium studying the feasibility of handling hydrogen carriers along the Rhine corridor, with a focus on ammonia and methanol rather than elemental hydrogen.
The study will examine which of our existing Duisburg tank systems can be converted to ammonia service, what containment and materials upgrades that conversion requires, and whether the existing pipeline connections into the Rhine-Ruhr chemical cluster can be repurposed or must be replaced.
We are clear-eyed about the timeline. Nothing about this is a near-term revenue story, and the study may well conclude that conversion is uneconomic at our scale. What it will produce either way is a defensible engineering answer, which is more useful than an optimistic press release.
