Vapour recovery retrofit completed across Westpoort

Every loading operation at the Amsterdam terminal now routes displaced vapour through an enclosed recovery unit, cutting volatile organic compound emissions by an estimated 96 percent.
Westpoort has completed the retrofit of enclosed vapour recovery across all tank and road-loading operations, eliminating the last open vents on site.
Volatile organic compounds released during loading were previously the terminal's single largest atmospheric emission source. The new unit recovers the displaced vapour and returns the condensate to the product stream, which has the useful side effect of paying back part of its own operating cost.
Measured against the 2019 baseline, the terminal now reports a 96 percent reduction in loading-related VOC emissions. The equipment is monitored continuously and reports into the site's environmental management system under ISO 14001.
